An exciting opportunity has arisen to meet the growing portfolio of transport planning and engineering projects within one of the UK’s and Australia’s leading independent consultancies. PJA is a specialist design practice with an integrated approach to Transport, Placemaking and Engineering. Our holistic approach ensures both innovative and deliverable design solutions and supports our vision to create better places through great design.  

The role will be based within our Perth office in Western Australia working on a range of projects.  The successful candidate will also assist our team in Melbourne, Victoria with their growing project portfolio. 

The role will require working across a range of different projects although the focus will initially be on meeting our commitments on developing traffic engineering and road safety projects. Experience of transport planning and traffic engineering studies for the public and private sector would also be welcome. 

Permanent – Full or Part-time (minimum 3-days a week). 

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or above (Transport Planning/Engineering, Civil Engineering, Maths, Science, Geography etc.) or have more than 10 years’ significant experience in development led Transport Planning and Engineering. They should have experience of delivering and project managing small to medium sized commissions (depending on experience and role) with both public and private sector clients with only minimal supervision required. As a confident communicator verbally and in writing, they will be required to present and communicate their ideas clearly and concisely both internally and also to a wide range of external audiences.  

They will also have:

  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant design experience in development focused transport planning and traffic engineering 
  • Experience of undertaking policy preparation 
  • An understanding and experience of road safety audits. 
  • Knowledge and experience of applying design guidance such as Australian Standards, Austroads, Main Roads WA standards, IPWEA sub-division guidelines etc 
  • An understanding of the planning process within Western Australia 
  • Significant experience in the production of Transport Assessments and providing advice and guidance on various development led projects. 
  • Ability to contribute / lead on prospect and proposals and financial processes  
  • Excellent Project Management skills  
  • Developing and maintaining excellent external client relationships 
  • An ability to solve complex problems and identify new innovative solutions. 
  • Strong technical background with experience and/or understanding of industry specific software (ideally SIDRA and not essential but desirable, Linsig, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, AIMSUN/VISSIM,)
